What Is Gum Disease?
Gum disease is an infection in the gum tissue. There are two different stages of gum disease:
- Gingivitis is the milder form of gum disease. Its symptoms are subtle and can include red, swollen gums that bleed easily when you brush. Gingivitis is usually reversible.
- Periodontitis is the advanced form of gum disease, and it is characterized by permanent tissue to the gums and underlying bone structure. Its symptoms can include chronic bad breath, loose teeth, and tooth loss.
